Manchester City's Roque Santa Cruz excited by Carlos Tevez and Samuel Eto'o rumours

After a chase lasting more than a year, the Paraguayan international finally completed his £18 million move from Blackburn last week and was officially presented today as Hughes's second capture of a summer which is likely to bring even more high-profile players to the world's richest club. City have lodged a £25m bid with Barcelona for Eto'o, one of Europe's most prolific marksmen, while Tevez is expected to move along the M60 for a similar price in the coming days after announcing he would leave Manchester United once his two-year loan period expires today. Such stiff competition would intimidate lesser players, but Santa Cruz insists he is looking forward to playing alongside such illustrious names. 'There will always be challengers for the same positions at a big club,' he said. 'But that will just make the squad stronger and make everyone deliver better performances to show they deserve to play. 'I don't know who is coming as well as me but whoever does arrive to make us a better team will be welcome. Our aim for the season must be the top four. That is the mentality among the players. It is not enough to say we want to win as many games as possible, we have to set ourselves a target and be sure that is where we must finish.' That task will be achieved far more easily if Tevez and Eto'o do arrive this summer, although Hughes is prepared to be patient. An announcement is expected from the Argentine international this week, while City's move for Eto'o is threatening to descend into chaos, with Barcelona offering a player they had intimated they were happy to sell a two-year contract extension on Monday. "We have made an offer but there appears to be a situation between the player and his club that we cannot be part of," he said. "We just have to sit back and see what develops. Patience is a word that has been mentioned and we may need some of it."
