Manchester City's request met as Carlos Tevez is left out of Argentina friendly

Hughes asked Argentina not to play his new striker, who has yet to feature in a single pre-season match for the club, in the Aug 12 match and after an inspection by a doctor from the South American country, the request has proved successful. Tevez aggravated a problem in his heel when he slipped in the shower earlier this summer and has been hampered by it throughout his time at Eastlands. Hughes maintains that Tevez will be fit for City's Premier League opener at Blackburn a week on Saturday, though he has not been able to train properly since his £25 million transfer from Manchester United. "We don't think Carlos should play for his international team," said Hughes earlier this week. "We would prefer him to stay back next week. He hasn't trained all pre-season. "He had an injury from his last international and then he banged the same area when he slipped in the shower. "He'll be fine for the start of the season, but he's still not able to put his full weight on it." An Argentine team doctor visited Manchester to assess the player and concurred with Hughes' opinion. The AFA said in a statement: "Dr. Donato Villani, the national team doctor, said the player (Tevez) has communicated with coach (Maradona) to tell him about the ankle injury."
