Manuel Pellegrini has taken over the reigns at moneybags Manchester City. The former Real Madrid manager has bought quietly, but he has bought quality, bringing in four quality signings who will by vying for starting berths in a quality Manchester City side.

Here we look at what could be Manchester Citys best XI for the upcoming season.

Formation: 4-2-2-2

GK: Joe Hart

Dropped a little in performance last season but it still one of the worlds top goalkeepers. Firmly established himself as Manchester Citys, and Englands number one.

RB: Pablo Zabaleta

CB: Vincent Kompany

CB: Matija Nastasic

LB: Gael Clichy

In Pablo Zabaleta and Gael Clichy, City have two of the Premier Leagues best full backs, full of overlapping energy, the pair also have good defensive qualities.

Captain Vincent Kompany is one of the worlds top defenders, and the Belgians starting berth will never be under any threat. Whilst partnering him is young Serb Matija Nastasic, his impressive performances last year earned him a PFA young player of the year nominee. If Micah Richards stays injury free as well, expect the versatile Englishman to make a few appearances at centre back and right back this season.

CM: Fernandinho

CM: Yaya Toure

RW: Jesus Navas

LW: David Silva

What a mouthwatering midfield partnership Yaya Toure and Fernandinho will be, powerhouse Toure has phemominal strength and is the heartbeat of the Man City team, joining him is new signing Fernandinho, brought in from Shaktar Donetsk for £30,000,000 the Brazilian is the box-to-box midfielder that Manchester City were crying out for at times last season.

Pellegrini can count on pace and trickery on the right from new signing Jesus Navas who is set to oust James Milner from the starting XI. On the opposite wing is fellow Spaniard David Silva, he has the ability to bamboozle any defence with his silky skills. Samir Nasri will have to settle for a place on the bench.

ST: Sergio Aguero

ST: Alvaro Negredo

Manchester City have serious firepower up front, with new signings Alvaro Negredo and Stevan Jovetic joining Sergio Aguero and Edin Dzeko in the City team, a fearsome foursome indeed.

Aguero and Negredo get the nod but expect serious competition for places. With Dzeko and Negredo, City have aerial threats, in Aguero they have a top class poacher, and in former Fiorentina man Jovetic they have artistry and creativity. All will be vital assets as City as they look to regain the title from city rivals Manchester United.
