Manchester City's Mark Hughes taking no nonsense approach after £95m spree

Man City have been tipped to mount a challenge for the top four this term after attracting the likes of Carlos Tevez, Emmanuel Adebayor and Kolo Toure to Eastlands since the end of last season.[LNB]The club's Abu Dhabi owners have set a top six finish as the target for this campaign, but the reality for Hughes is that the focus is now firmly fixed on his players and expectations of breaking into the top four are high.[LNB] Related ArticlesBlackburn v Manchester City match previewDunn: kick lumps out of Man CitySalgado set for English movePremier League transfersBig-money signings suffer on England dutySport on televisionHaving reshaped his squad since arriving as manager in June 2008, Hughes has now been able to stamp his personality on his team at City.[LNB]But he admits that he will not shirk the tough decisions if City are unable to live up to the hype in the opening weeks of the season.[LNB]He said: "You know very quickly if things aren't working and you have to address them quickly if it's not right, so we take it on a game to game basis.[LNB]"The way I work and the way my staff works, we prepare as well as anyone and I back my staff against any other in the Premier League in terms of what we do in preparation.[LNB]"If the game doesn't go as we feel, or even if we win the game, there will still be aspects of the game that we need to review, address and look to improve on in the next game.[LNB]"That's the process I've had in all my previous jobs. It's about learning and being better at what you do.[LNB]"There is a lot of interest in us and a lot of people want us to succeed and just as many that want us to fail.[LNB]"We have to live with that and deal with it, but it is about making sure that we're the best prepared team in the Premier League and that's what we strive to be."[LNB]City launch their Premier League campaign at Ewood Park on Saturday against Hughes's former club Blackburn.[LNB]Rovers midfielder David Dunn has already warned that his team are ready to "kick lumps out of City" on Saturday and Hughes admits that City cannot expect an easy ride this season.[LNB]He said: "We're just looking forward to the first game of the season and that's the challenge for everyone.[LNB]"Everybody is really champing at the bit. We're six weeks into our pre-season now and we just want to get on with it and start the big kick-off.[LNB]"I'm sure Blackburn are thinking in those terms as well, though, just gearing up for that first game and it's a big game for them.[LNB]"It's the first game of the season and it's at home, so they'll want to put on a good show for their fans. We're taking a huge number of fans so we'll want to put a great show on for them."[LNB][LNB]
