Manchester City's funny money couldn't tempt me to Eastlands, says Buffon

Gianluigi Buffon insists he would never have swapped Juventus for Manchester City despite the money on offer from the Premier League's biggest spenders. As exclusively revealed in Sportsmail last December, City were keen to take Buffon to Eastlands as manager Mark Hughes planned how to spend the vast riches of the club's Arab owners. The deal included a £20million transfer fee and a £13m annual salary for Buffon. 'Manchester City were interested, but with all respect, it was not for me. 'I have a family and things to think about, I would never have gone, even if they doubled my wages. With all respect for money, some thingsin life are priceless.' Although Buffon wasn't interested in joining City, he did contemplate walking away from the club he had been at since 2001. The Italy international said: 'I kept on getting hammered around October with all these offers from abroad. Strange rumours too. Nobody denied any claims, and I stopped to think what was happening,' Buffon told La Repubblica. 'I thought. "Is there something true in all these rumours?" Sometimes footballers are the last to know things and I thought if that's the case then I need to find out, and so I met with the club in order to see if they still counted on me. 'I wanted to be certain of the project here and whether we were playing to win, because if you only play for a while then your performances decrease.'
