Manchester City to investigate reports Santos cannot pay Robinho's wages

The £32.5m forward, currently sidelined with a thigh injury, left Eastlands for Santos in January in a short-term deal aimed at safeguarding his position in Brazil's World Cup squad. [LNB]With Santos forced to cover Robinho's £160,000-a-week Manchester City salary as part of the loan agreement, the Brazilians had sought the assistance of sponsors to cover his wages. [LNB]With Santos attracting attendances of just over 10,000, the club is unable to generate sufficient income to cover the cost of hiring Robinho. [LNB]Despite claiming he is keen to end his time at City by remaining in Brazil beyond the end of his loan in August, Robinho is understood to have paid the rent on his Cheshire mansion until Jan 2011. [LNB]City have no plans to offload Robinho unless they receive a substantial offer for the British record signing and, while the club is unaware of any financial issues involving the Santos loan, officials are now keen to clarify the situation.
