Manchester City taunt Manchester United with Carlos Tevez 'welcome' poster

The Argentina international, who last month rejected the chance to remain with United, was officially unveiled as Mark Hughes’ latest acquisition earlier this week after agreeing terms on a five-year deal worth £150,000-a-week. Tevez was a hugely popular figure among supporters at Old Trafford during his successful two year spell there and City have wasted little time in publicly celebrating the fact that they are now able to compete with their neighbours when it comes to buying the best talent available. The poster, situated on the edge of the city boundary next to Salford and the Borough of Trafford, the area in which the United ground is situated, plays on the fact that many City supporters claim sole rights to supporting a club from Manchester proper. The 25-year-old striker is currently on tour with his new side in South Africa and stands to make his debut on Saturday against the Orlando Pirates. And United’s fans might not be the last to have their noses put out of joint by manager Mark Hughes’ lavish summer spending with the possibility of Chelsea captain John Terry joining Tevez at Eastlands before the summer is out. The 28-year-old left with the rest of the Chelsea squad on the club’s pre-season tour to America last week, though Hughes says he is prepared to wait until the final day of the window if it means landing the defender. Terry is yet to break his silence over the persistent rumours concerning his future, keeping alive a story that at its outset appeared fanciful at best but now has a credibility born of Terry’s lack of public commitment to the club.
