Manchester City still hopeful of Samuel Eto'o deal

Eto'o apparently prefers to remain with Barcelona, with reports claiming City would have to offer Eto'o a signing bonus of £12.5 million, plus wages of £200,000 a week, on top of the £25m transfer fee demanded by Barcelona. Eto'o has been offered a two-year contract extension - with no pay rise - by Barcelona, and Hughes said: "We have made an offer but there appears to be a situation between the player and his club that we cannot be part of. "We just have to sit back and see what develops. Patience is a word that has been mentioned and we may need some of it." Hughes also confirmed City are interested in signing Carlos Tevez, who has left Manchester United. "I am a huge admirer of Carlos," said Hughes. "Everyone is aware of his situation and we are interested, as we are in all top quality players. "We will have to see what happens but these are very early days." Tevez was a cult hero at Old Trafford, and his arrival at Eastlands would give City fans the opportunity to taunt their arch rivals. It would also help attract further high-profile names to City, a process which has proved troublesome for the club since their Abu Dhabi buy-out.
