Despite reports in Germany on Thursday that City had begun talks with the player and his advisors, senior City officials are understood to be waiting for Dzeko's buy-out clause to expire at midnight on Monday before making a formal move.

Mark Hughes, Mancini's predecessor identified Dzeko as a target last summer before ultimately moving for the injury-ravaged Blackburn forward Roque Santa Cruz.
Dzeko was also monitored by Manchester United 12 months ago before the Old Trafford club completed the free transfer signing of Michael Owen.
Dzeko impressed in his two Champions League appearances against United, however, with goals in both encounters.
