Manchester City play down chances of signing Ronaldo or Kaka

ShareManchester City insist they won't embark on a wild spending spree after reaching the Champions League. [LNB]Roberto Mancini is desperate to reinforce his squad after qualifying for the lucrative competition next season. [LNB]City have already been linked with a string of top-class players including Cristiano Ronaldo, Xavi, Kaka, Zlatan Ibrahimovic andCesc Fabregas. [LNB] Big time: Manchester City will play in the Champions League next season[LNB]However, chairman Khaldoon al-Mubarak has warned fans not to expect a mass of new signings at Eastlands this summer. [LNB]In an interview to be published on the club's website, he said: 'It won't be like last summer, or the summer before. What you will see this year is strengthening the squad inareas that we feel require more depth. We don't need quantity, as todaywe have quality. We just need a couple of players.' [LNB] After an overall investment in excess of ?1billion and ?350million spent on players alone since Sheikh Mansour rescued the club from the ill-fated Thaksin Shinawatra era almost three years ago, it is clear City are not far from where they want to be. [LNB] Big name: City have been linked with a summer move for former Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo[LNB]As the man responsible for overseeingthe growth of the club from within the Abu Dhabi hierarchy, Khaldoon has given unqualified support to the manner in which Mancini has achieved his pre-season aims. [LNB]'I feel strongly a winning mentality is coming into the team,' said Khaldoon. 'We have an incredible squad with so many talented individuals and a lot of heart in that squad. [LNB]'We have an incredible foundation forincredible years ahead. I am absolutely delighted for everyone involvedin the club. The team, the players, coaches and the fans of course.' I am so proud of what he has accomplished.'
