Manchester City in hunt for Carlos Tevez and Gareth Barry

According to the News of the World, City, backed by the billions of their Abu Dhabi owners, will offer Kia Joorabchian £32m for Tevez and hand the Argentine a £140,000-a-week, four-year deal. Liverpool, Tottenham and Arsenal have all recently been linked with a move for the 25-year-old, while Manchester United, who Tevez has been playing for over the past two years on a loan agreement, are not out of the picture yet. However, all but City have baulked at the asking price, paving the way for manager Mark Hughes to sign the Argentina international on a permanent deal. Hughes is reportedly in the Middle East to talk about transfer targets with the club's owners - and Tevez tops his shopping list. Barry is also a player Hughes would like to bring to Eastlands, with the News of the World claiming City will offer the England international a £90,000-a-week contract and Aston Villa a £10m fee. Villa manager Martin O'Neill wants to keep Barry, whose contract expires at the end of next season, but City are hopeful a substantial bid will prompt a rethink. Liverpool are also courting Barry, having had a failed attempt to sign the midfielder last summer, but they would be unable to outbid City and will bank on the fact they can offer Champions League football as the ace up their sleeves.
