Manchester City hit out at talk of £100m bid for Barcelona ace Lionel Messi

Manchester City[LNB]have dismissed claims they are preparing a £100m deal for Barcelona star Lionel Messi.[LNB]A report in The Sun claimed that City had turned their attention to the Argentina ace after missing out on Brazil international Kaka in January.[LNB]Reports used quotes from Dr Sulaiman Al-Fahim - the man who led Abu Dhabi United Group's takeover of City - to suggest City were about to bid for Messi.[LNB] Barca star: Lionel Messi scores past Atletico Madrid's goalkeeper Leo Franco last weekend[LNB]But Al-Fahim has since been sidelined and, as reported by MailOnline, the Dubai-born businessman was not talking about City when he talked of admiration for the 21-year-old.[LNB]City said in a statement: 'Following an article in The Sun newspaper which claimed that Manchester City are preparing a £100m bid for Lionel Messi, the club would like to make the following information clear. The story is untrue and this fact has been accepted by the newspaper in question.
