Manchester City hand Daniel Sturridge final contract offer

Sturridge is out of contract in June, when he can leave as a free agent, and, according to the Mirror, he has reportedly become a target for Aston Villa and Chelsea. It means City face losing the £4m-rated striker for nothing unless he signs a new deal. City will make me world's best It had been reported that Sturridge was holding out for £75,000 a week, but City have told his agent that they are only willing to pay half that sum. After recent talks between club and player broke down, City manager Mark Hughes said: "We want Daniel to stay because he is an outstanding player. "But there has to be an understanding from his advisers that there is a level for everybody. Daniel is still making his way in the game." Sturridge joined City's academy from Coventry in 2003 and has made 11 Premier League appearances for Hughes' men. Meanwhile, Martin Petrov could return for City in tomorrow's Uefa Cup quarter-final with Hamburg. The Bulgarian has been missing since August after suffering a cruciate knee ligament injury on international duty but came through a 45-minute appearance at Newcastle on Monday without a problem and will be included in Mark Hughes' squad. "The plan was to give him 45 minutes on Monday night," said Hughes. "He came through that and looked impressive. You forget what quality he can produce and he looked in good nick. "He was blowing a bit, which is fairly obvious given how long he has been out. But he is an option for us." Wayne Bridge, Benjani Mwaruwari and Stephen Ireland will all travel to Germany, although Ireland seems highly unlikely to figure after sustaining a freak ankle injury in training last week.
