Manchester City close in on Leroy Sane deal

Manchester City are set to announce the signing of Germany winger Leroy Sane as manager Pep Guardiola looks to complete his squad strengthening before the start of the season.

The Schalke winger underwent a medical on Monday after a fee in excess of £30million was agreed.

Sane is expected to be confirmed as Guardiola's fourth signing of the summer on Tuesday with the Catalan pursuing Everton defender John Stones and Gabriel Jesus from Palmeiras to bolster his squad in the final few days before their Premier League opener against Sunderland at the Etihad Stadium on August 13.

Schalke confirmed the 20-year-old Sane, who scored eight goals in 33 Bundesliga games last season, was on the verge of a transfer after revealing he would not be part of their pre-season training camp.

"Leroy Sane is currently in Manchester and will not be travelling with Schalke to the training camp," the Bundesliga club posted on their official Twitter account.

Guardiola has been attempting to rebuild the squad he inherited from Manuel Pellegrini but has so far brought in only Borussia Dortmund's Ilkay Gundogan, who will not be available for the start of the campaign as he is recovering from a dislocated kneecap, 29-year-old winger Nolito and 19-year-old midfielder Oleksandr Zinchenko, who was expected to go out on loan but may yet remain with the first team.

Everton centre-back Stones is the priority target to strengthen his defence but the two clubs have not been able to agree a fee, although there could be movement on that front after reports suggested the Toffees are close to agreeing a deal for Swansea's Wales captain Ashley Williams.

Jesus, the highly-rated Brazilian 19-year-old, is also expected to complete a move to the Etihad in the coming days.
