Manchester City chasing Martin Skrtel

Premier league champions are set to bid £20million for Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel.

Brendan Rogers faces his first challenge as Liverpool manager with City ready to move for the the defender. Daniel Agger has expressed his desire to stay at the club and sign a new contract and will hope Skrtel chooses a similar path.

Skrtel has recently got married and has put his future on hold untill he returns from his honeymoon in two weeks. Mancini has set the 27-year-old as his main transfer targer after being priced out of a move for highly rate Thiago Silva.

AC Milan want £35m for Silva and Mancini thinks Skrtel is a better option. Skrtel has expressed his frustration with Liverpool's woeful 8th placed finish and no Champions league football. Liverpool were hoping to persuade Skrtel to sign a new contract, but it seems Agger will be the first to extend his contract, after he returned from Euro 2012. "I have not yet discussed a new contract but if they come with an offer I will surely sit down and talk with them. If they ask, I will listen".
