Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini insists Carlos Tevez clash was a wake-up call

Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini believes his furious dressing room row with captain Carlos Tevez will give his inconsistent team fresh impetus as the Barclays Premier League season moves towards a critical phase.[LNB]As revealed by Sportsmail, Mancini and Tevez had to be pulled apart by other City players as the two men traded insults during half-time of the club's scrappy 2-1 win over Newcastle at Eastlands.[LNB]But in an interview in Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, Mancini claims that the argument proved to be a force for good.[LNB] Clash: City boss Mancini and his captain Tevez don't always see eye to eye[LNB]'What happened happens in our dressing room happens as well as in others,' he said. 'And when it matters it is good that it happens.[LNB]'Against Newcastle, City slept in the first half, and the confrontation with Tevez was the alarm call everybody needed.[LNB]'The confrontation with Tevez was a confrontation "con le palle", really ballsy. And in the second half City deservedly won. The alarm call worked well.[LNB]'Here there is a different dressing room mentality than in Italy. Now and then a good shake-up is healthy here.'[LNB]Mancini and Tevez resolved their differences in the manager's office on Sunday, with the Italian even agreeing to give his star player an extra day off after the forthcoming international break in order for him to visit his young daughter in Argentina.[LNB] Comeback: Johnson (far right) scored City's winner against Newcastle[LNB]It is clear, though, that Mancini expects even more from City's talisman, at least until fellow forwards Emmanuel Adebayor and Mario Balotelli can lend him some much-needed assistance.[LNB]Mancini said: 'We sorted everything between us before the restart. When I took him off at the end we shook hands.[LNB]I'm in charge: City boss Mancini[LNB]'Tevez is up there with the best of them. He scores in the big matches, he fights against defenders 6ft 4in tall, has got quality and grit. But a great side cannot depend on one player only.[LNB]'I made him captain because I want him to improve under all respects. He has the potential and he is improving.[LNB]'People talk about him not liking my training but I've only imposed double training sessions for three to four last season. Not once this season. Yet the media go on and on with this.'[LNB]Mancini has guided City to second place in the Premier League, despite a lengthy list of injuries. [LNB]He has also had to deal this week with the controversy raging over midfielder Nigel de Jong's tackle on Newcastle winger Hatem Ben Arfa and urged Premier League referees to treat his midfielder fairly.[LNB]'I am extremely sorry for Ben Arfa, who is an extraordinary player,' said the former Inter Milan boss. 'I sincerely hope he recovers speedily.[LNB]'De Jong plays with grit, but he's not dirty. He tackles hard, but never intending to hurt. Last Sunday it was a playing accident. The referee saw it all, and did not even award a free kick against him.[LNB]'De Jong's tackle on Xabi Alonso in the World Cup final was out of order, uncoordinated in the extreme. But I hope that referees continue to evaluate De Jong in fairness'[LNB] Under fire: But De Jong has the support of his club manager[LNB]Sunday's winning goal was scored by young England winner Adam Johnson, a player who has infuriated Mancini with some of his play this season.[LNB]'Adam is young, but has got what it takes,' added Mancini. 'He only needs to understand it is not enough to dribble past an opponent six times to feel entitled to feel at the top. [LNB]'You need to dribble as well as a cutting shot like the goal against Juventus, or the winner against Newcastle. If I didn't believe in Adam's potential I would not work him like this.'[LNB]Mancini hopes to have 20-year-old striker Mario Balotelli back from his knee injury in time for the Arsenal match on October 24.[LNB] Tevez and Mancini erupt at Eastlands as pair clash during Newcastle winBalotelli set to torment Arsenal as recovering City ace eyes debut dateOur big spending is over!
