Manchester City have been linked with a move for Spain Under 21 defender Sergio Sanchez. The 23-year-old, who coincidentally became Espanyol's first-choice right-back when Pablo Zabaleta joined City last summer, is reported to have a release clause set at about £5.1million, but he could be available for nearer to £3.5m. City boss Mark Hughes has contacted Espanyol and expects to complete a transfer in the next few days, according to Spanish newspaper El Mundo Deportivo. Sanchez, who was part of the Spain team knocked out in the group stage of the European Under 21 Championship group stage last week, is also wanted by Sevilla and Valencia. He had spoken of his desire to join Sevilla and play in the Champions League, but the interest of City is likely to change things.
