Manchester City agree record 54million fee for Atletico Madrid striker Falcao

Radamel Falcao will become Manchester City’s first signing of the Manuel Pellegrini era after City agreed a British record transfer fee for the Columbian international.Manchester City have met the £54m buy-out clause in Falcao’s Atletico contract securing him away from Jose Mourinho.

The World Class striker aged 27, scored 28 goals in the 2012-13 season from 33 games and came third in the La Liga top scorers list and only Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi could score more.

Mourinho could return to manage Chelsea next season following his “worst season of his career” at Atletico’s rivals Real Madrid.

Mourinho and Falcao share an agent, Jorge Mendes, who was hoping Falcao would join him at Chelsea.

If a deal is confirmed Falcao will be a boost to the profile of the Premier League and also let Carlos Tevez leave the Etihad stadium.
