Manchester City 4 Leeds United 0: match report
Sergio Aguero gave a superb performance here, scoring twice, and creating
another as Manchester City utterly dominated a disappointing Leeds United to
reach the quarter-finals of the FA Cup. It was particularly poignant for
Aguero, whose young son Benjamin had travelled over from Argentina and was
looking on, proudly wearing a “Kun Aguero” top.
Aguero took his goals – the first a penalty – with typical precision. Yaya
Toure and Carlos Tévez also scored and there could have been more. Both Yaya
Toure and Tévez were excellent while James Milner was tireless against his
old team. Some of David Silva’s passing was breathtaking.
Leeds’ players were as anaemic as their fans were defiant. Probably the time
Leeds kept the ball best was when their fans refused to return the ball for
a while. Such was the lack of ambition from Leeds that their supporters
turned on their manager. “Warnock, Warnock, time to go,’’ came the chant on
two occasions in the second half. Leeds fans were at their ironic best,
telling their City counterparts that:
“You’re nothing special, we lose every week”.
If Warnock’s future has been made more tense by this surrender, then City
fans’ support for their own manager appears as strong as ever.
