Manchester City

boss Mark Hughes has signed French prospect Jeremy Helan.

The 16-year-old defender, educated at INF Clairefontaine, decided against seeing out his first professional contract with Rennes and as a consequence was suspended from international football for a month.

But the France Under 17 international is believed to have reached a financial agreement with Rennes and appeared in City's 4-1 win over Carlisle last night in the Totesport.com League.
