Lille ready to hijack Manchester City and Sunderland moves for Kaboul

Lille have joined Manchester City and Sunderland in the race to sign Younes Kaboul from Portsmouth.

The French high-flyers are preparing a £9million bid for the 24-year-old centre back after losing Nicolas Plestan to injury and Aurelian Chedjou to the Africa Cup of Nations.

Lens have also been linked with a move for the former Auxerre player, but Pompey's £14m price tag is proving prohibitive.

Target: Younes Kaboul

However, the Barclays Premier League strugglers' financial problems mean they are likely to cash in before the close of the transfer window.

Lille are seven points behind champions Bordeaux in the French League and are determined to strengthen at the back.
