But Blues stalwart Vincent Kompany says he could not care less about where the two arch-rivals lie in October. ?It?s not about United, it?s about ourselves,? said the no-nonsense defender, again a pillar of strength as City saw off the Toon with a Carlos Tevez penalty and a super strike by substitute Adam Johnson. The win means City are ahead of the Reds going into October for the first time since 1990-91 ? the last time they finished the season above their cross-town rivals. No doubt that will provoke some banter in pubs and workplaces across the city, but Kompany says it has not even registered with the focussed City players. ?As long as we try to remain in the position we are in now, and maybe one spot away from first place, everyone will be happy, regardless of where United are,? he said. ?The result was the most important thing ? it meant we could sit back and watch what happened between Arsenal and Chelsea. ?We didn?t play at our best but we did the job and that is what mattered. We can look at the league table and feel we have done a good job so far.? City?s stars flew off to the four corners of the planet for the international break, and manager Roberto Mancini hot-footed it to the airport to fly home and be with his sick father in Italy. But assistant Brian Kidd reaffirmed that no-one at City was crowing about having moved above United. ?It has no impact here,? said Kidd. ?It is October and everything is sorted out in May. United have been very successful, and credit to them. ?But it?s about City, and what we do. It happened when I was a player, and we just worried about what we had to do, and not about any other club.? What do you think?
