Kompany - Home form is key

Influential Manchester City midfielder Vincent Kompany insists the club have to turn Eastlands into a fortress if they are to finish the season in style. City still have an outside chance of claiming seventh place in the Premier League and that could be enough to yield a European berth. But Mark Hughes' City have taken just seven points on their travels this season from a possible 48, winning just once and meaning their home form is more important than ever. Only three other teams outside the big four have conceded fewer goals at home than City and leaders Manchester United are the only top-flight club to have won more of their home contests or scored more goals on their own turf. City conceded three goals last weekend at home to Fulhum, but prior to that, visitors to the City of Manchester Stadium had hit the back of the net just once in the previous five matches. Belgium international Kompany is ready to lift himself and face West Brom on Sunday after the disappointment of going out of the Uefa Cup to his former club Hamburg in midweek. "The fans were incredible, if we can put in the same spirit at every game then we will have the same support from them," he said. "It's already tough to come here but we should aim for our stadium becoming a fortress." Kompany told the club's official website: "We kept coming back at Hamburg, there was a real hunger about us. That's what it should be like for every game. It's not just about playing well, we were like a team and were strong. "I don't like to lose but if we were to go out I wanted it to be with pride and with some fight. That's what we did." Team newsSkipper Richard Dunne is available to face West Brom despite being sent off against Hamburg as his ban only applies in Europe. Midfielder Nigel de Jong is expected to return to the squad after sitting out the Uefa Cup match against his former club as he was ineligible. However Shaun Wright-Phillips remains doubtful with an ankle injury that has caused him to miss the last two games.
