Kompany admits injury blame

Manchester City midfielder Vincent Kompany has admitted he is partly to blame for his spell on the sidelines. The 23-year-old Belgian played through the pain barrier for City last season in a Uefa Cup match in February and aggravated a toe injury which needed to be rested. Kompany faces another three weeks out after going under the surgeon's knife after resting the toe for a month during the summer. "I kicked someone's heel in a game in February and must have broken something and torn ligaments and muscles within the toe," he told Manchester City's official website. Damaged"Because I prolonged playing, in the end, everything was damaged. Playing on perhaps wasn't the cleverest thing to do but I don't regret it. "It was just disappointing that the time off didn't cure the problem. After all the pain and discomfort I had gone through last season we decided to let the toe rest for a month during the holiday period. "But after two training sessions I knew that it was not going to happen and it would be a case of starting everything from scratch again." Kompany is expected to return to action in October as he steps up his recovery from surgery, and is looking forward to getting back into action. "The operation has relieved me from a lot of pain," he added. "I am now looking forward to being able to play pain free which hasn't happened for a while. The manager says he has got to hold me back and he is probably right."
