King, Crouch and Wright-Phillips miss out as Capello begins his England preparations

Shaun Wright-Phillips, Ledley King and Peter Crouch all missed England training today. The trio sat out the opening session as the Three Lions prepare for Saturday's friendly against Slovakia at Wembley. King's absence comes as no surprise with the defender unable to train properly at Tottenham because of a persistent knee injury. King was seen arriving with the squad before departing again, with Spurs medical staff working with him this week as well as Fabio Capello's backroom team. Despite admitting he was unsure about his international future, King was drafted into Capello's squad to face Slovakia, then Ukraine in a World Cup qualifier the following Wednesday. If King played at Wembley against Ukraine, it would virtually guarantee that he would miss Spurs' game against Blackburn following the international break. Boss Harry Redknapp has admitted he is furious at that prospect. Portsmouth striker Crouch and Manchester City winger Wright-Phillips were rested after picking up slight knocks at the weekend. Wright-Phillips is suffering from a sore back and missed the session at Arsenal's London Colney complex, while Crouch has a tight calf. Neither complaints are serious, however.
