Kidd calls for trophy push

rian Kidd believes Manchester City must start winning trophies before they can consider themselves to be genuine rivals to Manchester United.[LNB] Roberto Mancini's right-hand man has served both fierce Manchester neighbours as a player and coach and is now attempting to help guide City to a first trophy since their 1976 League Cup triumph.[LNB]The Blues have signalled their intent on ending that drought by spending £79million on four players ahead of the new season.[LNB]But, despite the arrival of international stars such as David Silva and Yaya Toure, Kidd insists the rivalry between City and United will only intensify when Mancini's men start challenging for league honours. [LNB]"This isn't really like the rivalry back in the 1960s because the Blues were winning trophies back then," Kidd, who marked his 19th birthday by scoring in the European Cup final just two weeks after City won the league title in 1968, told the Daily Star.[LNB]"They won the league. That's the crux of it. That made it a genuine rivalry. [LNB]"Here at City we haven't won anything yet this time. [LNB]"At the moment we have a monkey on our back. You can't wrap it up any other way. [LNB]"We need the first trophy. Once we win one the mentality will grow. [LNB]"The demands are huge, but once something happens, then it sparks other things. [LNB]"Could this be the end of the long wait? Yes, it's similar to how it was at United. [LNB]"I believe there are a lot of talented players at the Blues. I think we have a great squad. We just need a trophy to get us on a roll."
