Joleon Lescott fears for his England spot after losing his regular role at Manchester City

Joleon Lescott fears his England place could be in danger after he slipped down the pecking order at Manchester City.

The 30-year-old centre-back emerged as a key player in England's defence during the European Championship, but he has endured a difficult spell at City this season with Matija Nastasic being preferred at times in the back-line.

The Serb has helped shore up City's leaky defence in recent weeks and Lescott could make way against Borussia Dortmund after returning in Saturday's 1-1 draw with Everton. Lescott is determined to regain his regular role for City and is fully aware he cannot stay on the sidelines if he is going to remain in Roy Hodgson's plans.

"It's important I stay fit and get back in the team," Lescott told The Sun.

"It's nice to have played for England but I need to force my way back into our side first to have a chance of staking a claim for my country. "It'll be hard to break back regularly with Matija playing so well.
