Manchester City winger Adam Johnson is hoping to put his World Cup heartache behind him by becoming an England regular.[LNB] Johnson almost snatched a place in England's World Cup squad after an impressive start to his City career following his mid-season move from Middlesbrough.[LNB]The 22-year-old winger earned a place in Fabio Capello's provisional squad but despite being handed his debut as a late substitute in the warm-up game against Mexico, he missed out on the final cut.[LNB]England went on to stutter through the group stage in South Africa and suffer a 4-1 defeat by Germany in the second round.[LNB]But the Three Lions host Hungary for a friendly at Wembley on August 11 and Johnson is eager to show he is worth a place in Capello's plans for the future.[LNB]"I would hope for a call to be involved," he told City's official website.[LNB]"I'm still a bit disappointed even now, to be honest, that I didn't go to the World Cup, because I felt I was in such good form.[LNB]"For a couple of days after, I was absolutely devastated. But the manager had tough decisions to make.[LNB]"It (the World Cup) didn't go how any of us wanted. I was disappointed for the lads.[LNB]"My next step will be to try to establish myself with the England set-up," Johnson added.[LNB]"A lot of people are talking about changes, and hopefully I can be part of that. A cap for my country would be a nice way to start the season."[LNB]The Hungary friendly is just three days before the start of the Premier League season but City would have already been on a four-match tour of the USA, for which the City squad flies out on Saturday.[LNB]The Blues also have friendlies against Borussia Dortmund and Valencia before the big kick-off against Tottenham on August 14.[LNB]"First of all, I've got to establish my place in the City team like I did towards the end of last season," Johnson added.[LNB]"That's the main aim, and if I play well, hopefully England will follow."[LNB]Johnson soon established himself in City's starting line-up last season but this term faces competition from Spain winger David Silva, the summer signing from Valencia.
