Johnson eyes bright future

Manchester City midfielder Michael Johnson is looking forward to a long career at Eastlands and believes the club can eventually land the Premier League title.[LNB] Johnson excelled under former coach Sven Goran Eriksson two seasons ago and earned comparisons to City legend Colin Bell, while also attracting interest from Liverpool and Arsenal.[LNB]However, the 21-year old endured a difficult campaign last term as he struggled to overcome a series of muscular problems which kept him on the sidelines.[LNB]The former England Under 21 international is eager to put last season behind him and believes the club can win the Premier League during his stay.[LNB]"Of course it is realistic to think Manchester City could be champions in my time at the club," he said.[LNB]"Every player at the club wants to finish as high as we can. But the truth is we want to win the league. That is the bottom line."[LNB]High profileSince the club's takeover by Sheikh Mansour's Abu Dhabi-based consortium last summer, the club have been linked with a string of high-profile players such as Ronaldinho and Kaka, and they even managed to land striker Robinho.[LNB]World stars Carlos Tevez and Samuel Eto'o are also reportedly on boss Mark Hughes' radar, with the former expected to sign next week.[LNB]The acquisitions of British stars such as Gareth Barry have further strengthened the squad, and Johnson admits it is an exciting time to be a City player.[LNB]"It is fantastic to be linked with all these players," he said. "It would be even better to get them."[LNB]The midfielder admits it has been difficult recovering from injury and has found it tough to force his way back into the side following the arrival of several central midfielders.[LNB]"Going from playing every week to being out of the side so suddenly has been soul-destroying," he said.[LNB]Focused"I have had to try and stay focused and keep calm, even though it has been tough at times.[LNB]"It is such an exciting time to be at Manchester City and I have not been able to be part of it. It is very frustrating.[LNB]"But I can see the light at the end of the tunnel now because I am confident we have got to the root of the problem.[LNB]"I have been working really hard and hopefully now I can remain injury-free.[LNB]"There are so many high-quality players at the club now, you simply cannot afford to be injured."[LNB]
