Johnson delighted with City winner

Manchester City's match-winner Adam Johnson has revealed there was extra significance to his goal in the 2-1 win over Newcastle.[LNB] The Sunderland-born winger actually grew up as a Newcastle fan and was rejected by the Magpies when he was 12.[LNB]But Johnson bounced back to come through the ranks at Middlesbrough and earn a £7million move to City in January.[LNB]And the England international, 23, avenged his Newcastle snub by coming off the bench to give City a 2-1 win at Eastlands on Sunday.[LNB]"I wasn't a Sunderland fan, I was at Newcastle and supported them as a kid," he said. "It's extra special to score against my old team but I play for City now, so that's all that counts."[LNB]Johnson scored his first goal at Eastlands in the 1-1 Europa League draw with Juventus last week and followed that up with a superb 75th-minute strike against Newcastle - just three minutes after replacing Gareth Barry.[LNB]City had been struggling to break down Newcastle, who had a strong penalty shout turned down late on, but Johnson's goal secured a hard-fought victory and sent the Blues above Arsenal and neighbours United into second.[LNB]It was Johnson's third City goal and his fourth this season including the two he scored for England last month.[LNB]"It's one of the best goals I've scored," he added. "It's my first in the league here and it's nice that it was the winner.[LNB]"It's always the plan when you're a sub to come on and try to make a difference.[LNB]"I did that. If we're going to do well this season, we need to grind out results."
