Is the hatred of Manchester City unjustified?

Manchester City fans are used to negative garbage being spoke about their club, if it's not other supporters complaining about how they've ‘ruined football’ or the comical chant ‘Where were you when you were...' you know how it goes (despite an average attendance of 28,261 during the 98/99 season when City were in yes, division 2).

It seems contradicting to say City are ruining football yet voted the greatest moment in Premier league history was when Sergio Aguero won the title in the last minute of the season for…Oh yeah Manchester City.

Another criticism of City is their spending figures, but across the city United have been doing that for years, players such as Berbatov, Rooney, Ferdinand, Veron, Nani & Anderson and Luke Shaw all costing around the £30million mark not to mention Angel Di Maria who was signed for £60m only to leave a year later for £15m less. Also the blues wouldn't spend ridiculous amounts if clubs didn't ask for it. criticized for not having enough English players but then having to pay extortionate prices to bring them in, take Raheem Sterling for instance, a 20 year old booed for taking a better well payed job, as if every other human wouldn’t do the same.

One thing that would have brought a chuckle out of most blues fans, were the predictions from the so called ‘experts’ about the 2015/16 campaign, most predicted City would finish second or third behind Chelsea and Arsenal some saying fourth behind neighbours Manchester United, but in the case of a couple such as former blue himself David James and Robbie Savage Man City won’t even achieve champions league football next season, both predicting City to finish 5th.

Now the blues are used to being written off, when they won their first title in 2012 most assumed they had crumbled going 8 points behind United before winning their last 8 games and clinching the title in the last minute of the season. The same happened again in 2014, having lost 3-2 at Anfield most believed the title was on its way to Liverpool but once again City ended the season strongly and won the title on the last day.

It seems unthinkable that a team with talent such as Sergio Aguero, David Silva & co could not be challenging for the title let alone finishing 5th. On the first Monday night football of the season the blues made a statement with a dominant display in a 3-0 win over West Brom, with Arsenal losing at home to West Ham and Chelsea drawing at home to Swansea suddenly Sky Sports were reporting Manchester City as favourites at just 2/1 to win the title. It goes to show people in football have short memories and the blues will thrive as underdogs, with rumours of Kevin De Bruyne coming to the Etihad plus Sterling and Delph to slot in, come May a few pundits may have egg on their faces.
