Ireland: I haven't signed a new deal and my future at Manchester City is in doubt

Stephen Ireland insists he is a long way from signing a new Manchester City contract, a statement sure to alert other top clubs. Ireland, 22, has been told his outstanding form this season will be rewarded with an improvement to his present deal worth £26,000 a week. City boss Mark Hughes, who was yesterday warned by the club's Arab owners that he must target a top-six finish in the Barclays Premier League next year, had hinted that an agreement was close. However, the Irish midfielder claims his future is in doubt. Ireland said: 'We're still a long way off. I don't know what's going to happen and if I'm going to sign or not sign. 'It's up to the club, not me. I think I've done enough this year, let my football do the talking. If they make me an offer, then great. If not, then I've got two years left.'
