Hughes reveals Lescott talks

Manchester City manager Mark Hughes has revealed that the club are currently in talks over the possible transfer of Joleon Lescott. The Everton defender has been at the centre of an ongoing transfer saga over the summer, with Toffees boss David Moyes initially insisting that Lescott was not for sale. However, after his side's 1-0 victory over Wolves on Saturday, Hughes suggested that the two clubs could be close to reaching an agreement. "My understanding before the game was that the clubs are speaking," Hughes said. "I would suggest that is a positive sign, although whether or not anything is concluded only time will tell." City missed a slew of chances to put the result against Wolves beyond doubt, but in the end Emmanuel Adebayor's second goal for the club proved enough for the three points. Although Hughes admitted that his team have converted more of their opportunities, he was still pleased with the way they managed to keep out a resurgent Wolves side. "We missed numerous chances, certainly in that first half, we probably should have put the game to bed earlier than we were able to," he told Sky Sports. "Obviously you expect a response from any team of Mick's (McCarthy) and they came out in the second half, just changed their shape and tried putting us under pressure with balls into our box and we had to withstand that. "We had a similar situation last weekend and we stood up to that challenge and didn't concede and it was the same again today. "In the end it will be always be close and a little bit of a worry when it's only still that 1-0 and we've missed chances but the important thing is we're creating them. "We've got some wonderful attack minded players and when it all clicks, and I'm sure it will do in the near future then we'll score lots of goals." The former Blackburn manager was quick to praise the tenacity of his side when facing second-half pressure after taking the lead early on. "We're showing good qualities in that respect and we showed great qualities last weekend because we were put under a lot of pressure," he added. "(There was) not as much pressure today but on occasions we had to show the qualities of resilience and making sure that we didn't concede and I've been really pleased with that aspect of our play this year."
