Hughes preaches patience

Manchester City manager Mark Hughes has been given 9,000 reasons to be optimistic about the new Barclays Premier League season. That is how many supporters turned up to watch the players go through their paces in an open training session at Eastlands on Thursday. The bumper crowd was an indication of how City's profile has been raised, with Kolo Toure, Emmanuel Adebayor, Carlos Tevez, Roque Santa Cruz and Gareth Barry arriving over the past few weeks. City put on an hour-long show for their fans but Hughes has asked them to be patient in the weeks ahead. He said: "We will do as well as we can. It is still a team that is coming together very quickly. It does take time to get the blend right and we are close. "But until you get into the nip and tuck of Premier League games, you do not really know. Let's hope we can settle quickly, gain some momentum and then I am sure we will be difficult to beat."
