Hughes not keen to spend
// A bit of a hack but it works// The article snippet is wrapped onto a second line, even when #article-sub is emptyif( $("div#article-sub").children().length == 0 ) {$("div#article-sub").remove();} Mark Hughes has warned Manchester City fans against expecting many new arrivals in the January transfer window.[LNB] The Eastlands boss is satisfied with his team's progress so far this season as they make the journey to the West Midlands to take on Birmingham City on Sunday, live on Sky Sports 1 and HD1, with the chance to jump back into a top-four place.[LNB]With money no object to mega-rich City, another hefty spree in the market was believed to be in the pipeline at the start of the New Year.[LNB]But Hughes has guarded against building up the same kind of numbers he did in previous windows, although he hinted that he could be tempted into dipping into the January sales if a marquee signing became available.[LNB]"We had to go to the market in January this year and we bought really well," said Hughes in The People, who brought in the likes of Shay Given, Craig Bellamy, Nigel de Jong and Wayne Bridge 10 months ago.[LNB]Impact"But other times you can make mistakes and you don't get value for money.[LNB]"We look strong so it would have to be a good player to come in, in January and have an impact and be better than what we've got."[LNB]Of the seven signings he made last January, Hughes reckons his £7.5million deal for Given could end up being the most astute.[LNB]The experienced Republic of Ireland shot-stopper has been a rock between the sticks since joining from Newcastle, with his manager adding: "Shay is up there with the best in the business."[LNB]
