Hughes - No rush on Elano deal
Mark Hughes says he is in no rush to offer Elano a new contract at Manchester City.
The Brazilian midfielder was an over-riding hit when he first moved to Eastlands in an £8million move from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2007.
But the 28-year-old has endured somewhat of a lull, including one major bust-up with manager Hughes, and the pair are rumoured to still not see eye-to-eye.
Elano, who has two years left to run on his current deal, has expressed his desire to sign a new contract but Hughes claims the Brazil international is not high on his priorities at the moment.
"Elano is not one of those players who we feel we need to renegotiate terms with," said the City boss, who has also played down speculation linking Barcelona duo Samuel Eto'o and Thierry Henry with a move to Manchester.
"But he is having an impact at this moment in time, which we are pleased
about.
"Last year he was new to the league and to the intensity of it. He made a big impression when he first came to the club but then struggled to make an impact on a consistent basis, which can happen.
"The games that he has played of late have highlighted the ability we all know he has. But it is about working hard and enabling the team to prosper as well as yourself. That is what is happening at the moment."
