Hughes lays down Euro gauntlet
Mark Hughes has called upon his players to secure European football next season after beating West Brom.
Hughes' Manchester City ran out 4-2 winners at Eastlands on Sunday to rekindle their European hopes following last weekend's home defeat to Fulham.
Goals from Robinho, Nedum Onuoha, Elano and Daniel Sturridge ensured the victory although the Baggies made a fight of it with Chris Brunt netting a brace.
City are now back in the hunt for a place in next season's Europa League and Hughes has urged his players to finish the season strongly.
"We are on 41 points and we are there or thereabouts," the Welshman said.
"We are going to have to win a game certainly away from home at some point, that's been a big ask for us this year but hopefully we are going to address that."
Achievement
Hughes, whose future has been under constant speculation, insists City still have plenty to play for, despite crashing out of Europe in midweek to Hamburg.
"We want to still achieve something - this club has never been better than eighth in the Premier League," he said.
"We are 10th at the moment, so we have got something that we can achieve obviously ideally we would like to have European football again next year because we really enjoyed it this year."
Hughes also reserved praise for Robinho, who scored his first goal in 12 league matches in a barren run that stretched back to 28th December.
He added: "I think it was important that he got back on the goalscoring trail because I think people have used the fact that he hasn't scored this year so he's been able to address that."
