Hughes - Great day for City

Mark Hughes admits Manchester City's 4-2 win over Arsenal provided a 'great day' for everybody connected with the club. City went into the game boasting a 100 per cent record, but many people were expecting the Gunners to provide the stiffest test to date. In an open game at the City of Manchester Stadium, a Manuel Almunia own goal gave the hosts the lead before Robin van Persie levelled for the visitors. A blast of three goals in 10 second-half minutes from Craig Bellamy, former Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor and Shaun Wright-Phillips secured the win, much to Hughes' delight. "It was a great day for everybody connected with Manchester City," Hughes told Sky Sports. "The atmosphere in the stadium - our fans were absolutely magnificent - the emotion of the day and for us to come out on top against a very, very good Arsenal side, we're absolutely delighted. "There were a lot of eyes on us today, people were bigging it up saying it was going to be a proper test and the games we had won beforehand didn't really count, so we took all that on board. "We went out there with the right attitude, a good mentality and that shone through. "There are going to be stages in the game where Arsenal, because of the type of football they play, dominate possession, but I thought we didn't give up that many chances. "We were always a threat and always had a good variety to where we were attacking and we got our reward for our positive play." With the score at 1-1, Hughes also felt a change in his team's formation contributed to securing a fourth win from four Premier League games. He added: "I made a change because Stephen Ireland was struggling in the middle of the park, so we went to 4-4-2. "That helped us and we scored almost immediately after that. From that point we were absolutely devastating on the break. "Bellamy, I thought was absolutely superb and Adebayor, his performance was there for everyone to see. It was a great team performance and there were some great individual performances along the way as well."
