Hughes dismisses Keane claims

Mark Hughes has welcomed Roy Keane's return to management despite his former Manchester United team-mate questioning his managerial achievements.[LNB] Keane was a surprise appointment as the new Ipswich boss on Thursday having been out of the game since leaving Sunderland in December.[LNB]And on his arrival at Portman Road, Keane asked whether ex-United team-mates Hughes and Steve Bruce have, in fact, been successful managers since both are yet to win any silverware.[LNB]Manchester City boss Hughes has brushed off Keane's comments, though, saying the attention they have received is merely a measure of Keane's status.[LNB]"Roy is just making a statement," said Hughes.[LNB]Impact"The media are very glad he is back on the scene because he is good value.[LNB]"I don't think many managers who get appointed to a mid-table Championship team could make the impact Roy has.[LNB]"It is a compliment to him and the personality he has. He has taken on a big task there, just as I have here. It is about driving our clubs forward."[LNB]While Hughes is yet to win any trophies in five years of club management with Blackburn and now Man City, he steered Rovers into the top half of the Premier League in his time at Ewood Park.[LNB]This season, Hughes guided City to their first European quarter-final in 30 years and he feels achievement cannot always be judged solely in terms of trophies.[LNB]"Success is relative," he said.[LNB]"With limited resources, maybe just competing in the Premier League against some of the best teams in Europe can be viewed as a success.[LNB]"It is about expectation and resources."[LNB]
