Hughes awaits Ronaldo response

Mark Hughes is eagerly awaiting the football world's response after Real Madrid launched a world record bid for Cristiano Ronaldo. The Manchester City boss saw his club pilloried in January when they attempted an audacious bid to bring Kaka to the City of Manchester Stadium for over £100million when the Brazilian was still at AC Milan. But with Madrid's summer spending set to top £150million, after the acquisition of Kaka for £56million and banking on the Ronaldo deal going through for £80million, Hughes is eagerly anticipating the football fraternity's response. At present the two massive money deals seem to have been reported in a positive light, something that is in stark contrast with how the Kaka saga was relayed in January. "It's a significant amount of money," Hughes told Sky Sports News. "I'm sure that they (Real Madrid) are very pleased with the business that they have been allowed to do, acquiring Kaka and the likelihood is that they have acquired Ronaldo too. It's a significant amount of money and it's a huge outlet. "We obviously pursued one of those players and possibly the reaction to that pursuit was viewed in a different light. "It will be interesting to see the acquisition of those two players at Real Madrid and the reaction of the football world has in relation to Real Madrid. "It will be interesting to see if it is a similar sort of reaction to when we tried to bring Kaka here." The Welshman also refused to rule out City bidding the sort of money involved in the Ronaldo deal for the world's top players in the future. "That's a huge amount of money if the figures we have been quoted are true," he added. "We have shown a willingness to attract the top players in the world and we will continue to try and do that. "The level of investment you have to allocate to try and get the top players in the world is obviously huge and that is highlighted by the deals that have been done in the last few days. "If you want to compete in that market, yes you have to pay that money but it's not to say we will be doing that in the near future."
