HATCHET MAN: Crazy Cook is too easily pleased at Manchester City

18 May 2009 12:04
Manchester City have the sort of wealth that is out of this world and a chief executive to match. Garry Cook really is on another planet if he thinks the team's showing this year has been pleasing. Ninth is the highest they can finish despite spending nearly £120million on players since last summer. When Cook says the club's owners were ready to build things slowly, he must  have meant at a snail's pace because they finished ninth last season too. And if this term's showing has made them more solid and is part of the restructuring, as he claims, prepare for the cracks to show next season when City's big, expensive squad don't have the extra games of the Europa League to keep them busy.
