Hamburg 3 Manchester City 1: City crushed by Jol's men after super start

10 April 2009 10:32
Such are the fine margins in European football that a decent result can become a rather poor one in an instant, and so it was in north Germany last night as a late goal from the shin of a Hamburg substitute left Manchester City with everything to do at Eastlands next week. City were already assured of a full house when the teams reconvene for the second leg of this quarter-final in Manchester in six days, thanks to an imaginative cut-priceticket policy. Yet Mark Hughes's team will need every one of their 47,000 supporters if they are to rectify the damage inflicted in the Nordbank Arena on a night when Craig Bellamy suffered a bad knee injury. The striker will have a scan today but he is definitely out for the return leg and possibly for the rest of the season.
