Gordon Taylor on PFA Players' Player of the Year nominee: David Silva

17 April 2012 10:31
"David Silva is like Lionel Messi and [Cesc] Fabregas. He is a playmaker, a magician - I think some of his team-mates call him Merlin. He is a delight to watch. He comes from a top-quality football nation - he is in a squad there with the Spanish team.

He is really top quality and makes the team tick. He has been really outstanding but it perhaps shows the competitiveness of our game that he has not been able to maintain that throughout a full season, but certainly when he is at his best and at his sharpest I don't think there is a better playmaker in the world.

"He is far from strongest, he is quite slender, not particularly big and strong in profile, but he does manage to ride tackles. he does manage to pick locks in defences. He does it really well. The game can accommodate all sorts of different players, characters and skills but his skills, you liken them to some of the finest players in the world because they are silky skills. He is a delight on the eye."
