But he couldn?t be in better hands as he looks to develop. Roberto Mancini, Brian Kidd and David Platt all have experience of playing the game at the highest level. And they will give him every chance to reach his potential. The signs are good. Twelve months ago, Adam was starring in a Championship side. Now he?s showing he can produce at the top end of the Premier League and for England too. Adam came to City in January with promise. But that was all he had. And yet he developed so quickly that I think he would have gone to the World Cup with another month?s Premier League experience behind him. He?s started this season in a rich vein of form ? because he knew he had to be at the top of his game just to get into City?s team, never mind the England squad. Adam?s got a great attitude, as it?s clear he wants to play in every game. And I don?t think he will let stardom go to his head either. Guidance Roberto has already spoken to him about the sacrifices needed to reach the top and stay there. Kiddo may be one of the most down-to-earth characters in the game, but he?s been there and done it too, as has David. With so many wise heads around, Adam will not be short of good guidance as he enjoys the highs and endures the lows of being a top-class footballer. His terrific winner against Newcastle last weekend put us second in the Premier League. And the points tally would be even healthier if we?d beaten Sunderland and Blackburn ? as we should have done. The Carling Cup exit is the one disappointment so far this season, especially when you look at how the draw has opened up with Liverpool, Tottenham and Chelsea going out. We?ve proved we can beat the best this season. So we certainly should be beating Blackpool, our next opponents. Even their boss Ian Holloway is making us favourites for that one. But don?t be fooled. Liverpool may be in turmoil, but any team who can win at Anfield are a threat. :: GARY OWEN  is at gtcmanagement.co.uk ? for business energy savings.
