Garrido hails Tevez

Carlos Tevez, Roque Santa Cruz, Craig Bellamy and Patrick Vieira celebrate against FulhamCarlos Tevez can be Manchester City's Wayne Rooney in the late-season chase for a Champions League spot. That is the view of Spanish full-back Javier Garrido after Tevez inspired the Blues to a priceless 2-1 victory at Fulham. The striker netted his 22nd goal of the season - and his 18th in his last 17 starts - after Roque Santa Cruz's opener. And that was enough to lift the Blues back to fifth and within two points of fourth-placed Spurs, despite Danny Murphy's 75th-minute penalty. City have a game in hand over Spurs - who still have to come to Eastlands. And Garrido believes that Tevez, who spent two years playing alongside Rooney at Old Trafford, could be every bit as important as the Reds' top scorer. He said: "Wayne Rooney has been great for United this season. And Carlos Tevez is maybe our Rooney. "When Carlos plays, the team respond. They feel he is one player who will always give his best." City have nine games left to secure a place in the Champions League for the first time since the old European Cup was rebranded. And Garrido, a last-minute replacement for the injured Joleon Lescott, believes the Blues can make their Euro dream a reality. He said: "We are in a good position, and the right frame of mind. Of course, we have to do well in the last few games most of which are at home. We have to be strong but it's in our own hands." Will City finish in the top four? Have your say. | Submit Comments| Comments (52)| PrintWhat's this? Emaildel.icio.usDiggredditFacebookStumbleUponNewsvineGoogle BookmarksNetscapeTechnoratiWindows LiveYahoo! MyWebMa.gnolia
