Manchester City midfielder Stephen Ireland has effectively ended his international career with a stinging attack on Republic of Ireland manager Giovanni Trapattoni.[LNB]Ireland, 23, has not played for his country since lying about the death of two grandmothers to return home from an international fixture two years ago.[LNB]His former team-mates face France today in the first of a two-legged World Cup play-off game and Ireland said last night: 'It's unlikely I will ever go back. I've left my country now and obviously left under the wrong terms. It's clearly not something that was ideal but it's happened and since then my life has gone really nicely.[LNB] Stinging attack: Ireland[LNB]'Even if they get to the World Cup, there's not a part of me that will think 'that could have been me'.[LNB]'They haven't tried properly to get me back. It's just lip service. Trapattoni rang me during the summer but it was more about him covering his back and having a press conference where he could say: 'I've made the effort, I've spoken to Stephen, blah-blah'.[LNB]'I never enjoyed my time playing for Ireland. I will watch the game but I don't feel guilty ever. No manager would sway my decision now.'[LNB] Now we'll 'B' at our best! England's reserves? Irish are not smilingEven victory against Ireland may not be enough to save France's lame duck, Raymond Domenech Jack Charlton turned to Packie and said: 'The Pope could have saved that!'
