Allison joined the Blues in 1965 as assistant manager to Joe Mercer, with the duo helping City to land the League Championship, FA Cup, European Cup Winners' Cup and League Cup in a stunning three-year spell in the late 60s - the most successful time in the club's history. 'Big Mal', as Allison was known, was famed for his innovative coaching techniques and was a larger-than-life character, known for wearing a fedora and his love of cigars. Allison took sole charge of the club in 1972, and also had a spell back at the club from 1979 to 1980.
