Gelson Fernandes has left Manchester City to join Ligue 1 side St Etienne. The Switzerland midfielder, 22, moved to Eastlands from FC Sion in 2007, but he failed to establish himself in the first team under Mark Hughes this season. Fernandes was said to have attracted interest from various clubs around the continent, but he has now sealed a switch to St Etienne. A statement on City's official website read: "Manchester City can confirm that Gelson Fernandes has joined French side St Etienne for an undisclosed fee. "He goes with the best wishes for the future of everyone connected to Manchester City." Swiss newspaper Blick reports that Fernandes has signed a two-year contract.
