Everton demand answers over directors box row

Garry CookCity chief executive Garry Cook faces fresh controversy after Everton demanded he explain his involvement in a stand-up row in the Eastlands directors' box. The Merseysiders are fuming after Cook's verbal spat with millionaire property businessman George Downing on Wednesday night. Downing was at Eastlands as a guest of Everton as they beat City 2-0 in a heated match which ended with rival bosses Roberto Mancini and David Moyes being sent to the stand. And the rivalry on the touchline spread to the directors' box towards the end of the game, with City's chief executive finding himself at the centre of the storm. Everton claim that Cook initiated the argument, with Downing demanding an apology. But City are bemused, and are understood to have argued that Downing started the row by directing at least one chorus of a victory chant in Cook's direction - which Everton have denied. Ian Ross, Everton's head of media, said: "I can confirm that I have written to Mr Cook asking for his observations regarding the incident." City made no comment on the issue this morning when contacted by M.E.N. Sport. Nor would the club comment on reports that they were investigating comments allegedly made by Craig Bellamy in the players' tunnel after Wednesday night's defeat.| Submit Comments| Comments (132)| PrintWhat's this?
