Former England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson has joined the country's oldest Football League club Notts County as director of football. The Swede, who coached England for five years before one season at Premier League Manchester City and an unsuccessful spell as Mexico coach, will be presented at a news conference on Wednesday, the League Two (fourth division) club said. "Sven shares our vision, and to attract someone of his calibre is testament to the ambition that we all share for Notts County," club chairman Peter Trembling said in a statement. "This is a great day for everyone associated with the club." County, founder members of the Football League but outside the top flight since 1992, are currently languishing in the bottom division. They were bought last week by Munto Finance. Eriksson, who has worked at some of the world's biggest clubs including Lazio and Benfica, will begin his role with the East Midlands club with immediate effect.
